It was exactly two years ago on April 23 when Mayor Moody and Councilman Hatfield & Pullen held a taxpayer-funded ceremony to dedicate the brand-new taxpayer-funded City Hall to themselves! (see May 12, 2016 post “Outgoing Incumbents to Heap More Honor Upon Themselves Before Exiting”)
It was then that Mayor Moody even choked up as he wistfully reminisced about the many months it took to finalize construction, which came a week before the election, just in time for a dedication ceremony and a friendly front-page splash in the Rockwall Hilarious Banner as voters headed to the polls. They waxed prolific about how “fiscally responsible” they were in making the building a reality. They expressed the expectation of the debt of gratitude that citizens owed to them for having the vision and fortitude to moving forward in the face of so much taxpayer opposition. The generosity of many private donors in its construction was also heralded as the reason why the building was such a bargain. This included brick, which was all donated, the roof, flooring, and cabinetry, which came in at half the price and of course the furniture, which was purchased for twenty-five cents on the dollar!
However, despite the donations & Moody & Hatfield’s shrewd business acumen the appraisal on our new 5,000 ft.² City Hall still cost $2.125 million to build, putting taxpayers on the hook for more than $3,000,000 in long-term debt.
Two years later, the building’s appraised value is just $800,000!
I wonder what else they have in store for taxpayers if they are able to unseat me and Wayne Orchard and take the open seat on the Council for themselves?
NOTE: If I am elected to continue serving as your Mayor, I will order the current plaque of self-aggrandizement to come down and be replaced with a new one that is dedicated to all the taxpayers of M-C who were forced into the bondage of debt without their knowledge or consent!
