Former MC Mayor, Mike Donegan is at it again!
Donegan used today’s city council workshop to lecture us about the importance of vision for a city, working from an old liberal lie that those who effort to limit the size and scope of government suffer from a lack of it.
The man who created the PAC deceitfully disguised as a citizens group propagating a litany of lies to mislead and deceive voters from supporting the tax rollback, used today’s city council workshop to lecture the city council about the importance of VISION following years of leading our city to violate our standards to protect our wide-open spaces and more rural lifestyle, taking away citizen’s right to chose their own sanitation service providers so that the city can take a 10% share of the earnings, vocally supporting a 228% increase in the tax rate, and supporting the former city council’s decision to put the people into debt without our knowledge or consent to build a shiny new city hall that the city does not need and that we did not want.
I take exception with high minded, pompous and arrogant elitists like Donegan who believe that their vision is the ONLY one that matters; that they know best how to spend other people’s money!
The problem for MC, as I articulated during today’s meeting, isn’t the lack of vision, it’s politicians like Donegan who have for too long imposed their vision on taxpayers without the people’s consent.
When it comes to a political philosophy so many of those who make up the former political elite, like Donegan, lack a compass. They are quick to jump on the bandwagon, talking as though they are fiscal conservatives while at the same time concocting a vision for larger and more intrusive, thereby more costly and wasteful, government.
It would seem then that the incubator of political liberalism in MC are cloistered among those who posture as both philosophically & politically conservative, while lacking the conviction to actually follow through on their belief.
Liberals like Donegan, don’t like to be reminded how former PM Margaret Thatcher was vilified for lacking vision when she opposed the decision to enter the EU for what she claimed would be the economic undoing of Brittan. Voters just won a hard fought battle to leave the EU, most wishing that their high-minded aristocratic leaders had listened to a leader who still understood as PM how much a pint of milk cost.
They forget that as a member of parliament, Winston Churchill was ridiculed for failing to understand Neville Chamberlin’s vision for peace in negotiating with Adolf Hitler. How did that work out for the thousands of British families who lost their lives because, as Churchill said, “most people would rather have civility than liberty.”
House Speaker Tip O’Neal often castigated President Reagan for lacking vision to meet the needs of the poor through government programs, funded by taxpayer dollars. Today the poor slaves to the government dole and the middle class continues to bear O’Neal’s Party’s vision!!!
However,as Reagan said, “Government isn’t the solution to the problem, government IS the problem!” I agree!!!
Mike Donegan wants to again take the lead, and if we’re not careful to stand up to him, he will.
