The one immutable fact about a hypocrite is that they hold others to standards they don’t hold for themselves. However, the only way to expose one is to play one.
That’s exactly what I did last week by attempting to push through approval of a city survey without giving members of the Council the opportunity to review it.
Of course it’s improper and indefensible to exclude members from participating in the formation of formal communications to citizens from the Council, which is precisely what the former Mayor and City Council did last year when they pushed for a “public relations consultant,” to work ALONE with the mayor so that the council didn’t impede progress to get those letters out! Not only that, but Councilman Lovell & Klutts, who both opposed even bringing in a spin doctor, were never provided any drafts or iterations of the letters before they were mailed.
Of course, both letters were fraught with lies and half-truth’s intended to deceptively influence citizen support for a 228% tax-rate increase!
So what happens when the tables are turned?
They raised a fierce objection to my motion to approve the survey, and argued against anything being sent out on behalf of the Council until the mayor & full council has the opportunity to first review it!
The fact is, their argument about ensuring that all members have input is right, and the council rightly voted against moving forward with the survey until all had time to consider the questions that I’ve proposed be in the survey.
Sadly, they simply refuse to acknowledge their own hypocrisy. Their sole focus is on winning an argument to be right rather than seeking what is true to do what’s right.
